Wooden gates and Automation. Openers and woooden gates work
together some of the time. Significant differences between
automation systems make some unsuitable for use with wooden
gates. All timber constructions are subject to movement caused
by weather and temperature changes, and any additional loads
created by using some gate openers will reduce considerably the
life of gates. Some gate openers are not designed for use with

Twisting and stress can - and should be - avoided by a
combination of procedures.
Some would further strengthen gates by adding metal bracing
across major timber joints. In particular some wider 5 bar
gates (as they are known) would require additional rails along
their length. It is essential to choose the correct
automation.
Since the mid 80's a superb close boarded gate designed for
use with automation has been available. The gate is built
around a metal box section inner core. The rigidity produced
has eliminated the tendency of some gates to twist when using
the automation more suited to iron gates.
Boarded both back and front, these gate designs are built to
better withstand the rigours of being automated. Much heavier
than normal, they can be produced in redwood and some
hardwoods.
