Treatment
wooden gates - 5 bar gates
driveway gates
Treatment of wooden gates should exclude transparent,
non-flexible, film-forming finishes such as lacquer, shellac,
urethane, and varnish. These are not recommended for
exterior use on wood. Ultraviolet radiation can penetrate the
transparent film and degrade the wood. Regardless of the number
of coats, the finish will eventually become brittle, develop
severe cracks and then fail.
Treatment wooden gates. Microporous or Moisture Vapour
Permeable systems; Words that simply mean that the products,
although they provide a weather proof finish for all external
wooden, timber or other surfaces, also allow moisture from
underneath to escape harmlessly. In other words they permit the
wood to breathe.
These coatings are mostly now used as treatment for
wooden gates, being resistant to peeling and blistering,
ensuring a much longer life than paints and varnish.
As with most things some give better results than others.
The range of products available offers all the treatment of
wooden gates timber coatings necessary to preserve and decorate
the structural woodwork inside and outside your home.
These coatings are available in water based or solvent based
options, in various finishes, translucent or opaque and a large
range of colours.
Hardwood Iroko Gates should be treated with 2 – 3 coats of a
vapour permeable wood stain prior to hanging. The timber will
weather unless regularly treated.
